music: !!! - me and giuliani down by the schoolyard (lfo mix)
- AUDIO ------------------->
- just discovered this album by Madlib... quite good
- YMCK is what you get when you mix cute japanese girl voices with nintendo 8-bit sounds
- another free dn'b mix from John B
- the recently released Dolby 5.1 mix of NIN's "The Downward Spiral" is amazing. I'm hoping surround mixes gain in popularity since they totally introduce a whole new dimension to the listening experience. It's like the difference between watching a documentary on a small television versus on an IMAX screen with 3-D goggles
- some interesting photos from a Northwest synthesizer meeting
- the 2005 "State of the Goat" on LiveJournal's progress over the past year is an interesting read. This feature excited me the most:
Journal post categorization — we're in the planning stages of offering user-managed post categories, so that users can organize their journals better and readers can filter the content they want to see.
- while reading some journals can be like torture... it is another thing to be tortured for writing a journal
- I'm not the only one that has noticed the gradual demise of Orkut. What a blown opportunity. Perhaps they will reinvest in it for 2005.
-
four is a worthy addition to any friend list - see a sample of the most popular words cropping up in the blogosphere
- David Byrne is blogging:
david_byrne - John Maeda, one of my favorite authors, is doing the same (he's actually from Seattle too!). Add him here:

- the trailer for Sin City makes the movie look quite promising
- I cannot wait to see the next Mike Judge movie. Read a script synopsis here. It includes a depiction of what I think will become (and probably already is) a major problem in our society... that the educated people procreate less and less while the uneducated population breeds more and more
- handy list of the Top 100 Overlooked Films of the 1990s
- awesome breakdown and categorization of company logos
- the hands free umbrella is quite rad
- the graphic design work of Reza Abedini is awesome (sadly, his webserver is quite flaky)

- great series of essays on how video games can be designed to better maximize the time spent with them
- I can't wait to check out the Ground Kontrol arcade in Portland
- best 404 page ever!
- best review of the Sony PSP I've read thus far. I wasn't really interested before, but I think I may have to pick one up when it comes out in the states... if nothing else, just to play Metal Gear Acid
- Speaking of Metal Gear... the launch event for Snake Eater looks amazing
